Angie Simmons

ANGIE SIMMONS taught with LDT from 2004–2009, and returned to her position as modern instructor with LDT in August 2010. She is thrilled to be back with LDT and its wonderful students. Angie teaches LDT’s modern levels 3 through 7, dance composition (a class in choreographic techniques), and also occasionally teaches beginning adult modern. In addition, she also teaches Advanced/Professional Modern Technique class independently in Boulder and she is adjunct dance faculty for Naropa University’s BFA program. Simmons has previously taught modern dance at Boulder Ballet, Ballet Nouveau Colorado, the Arvada Center, as a guest teacher for Schiff Dance Collective, and as a company instructor for 3rd Law Dance/Theatre. She has worked with various after school and residency programs locally, in Chicago, and in Minneapolis. Simmons resides in Boulder and is also an independent choreographer and the artistic director/choreographer of Evolving Doors Dance, a modern dance company founded in 2006. Her work with EDDP focuses on activism through dance, human interactions, and evoking and engaging audiences to be more than just entertained (www.evolvingdoorsdance.com). Angie was awarded a 2008 BCAA Neodata Fellowship Award for her body of work with EDD. She has taught, performed and premiered choreography in New York, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, and throughout the midwest. Angie recently served as a resident guest atist at Iowa State University, spending a week teaching and setting a commissioned work for ten ISU dancers. In previous years, Simmons founded SoulAxis Dance and Performing Arts Company (which is now RHS Modern Dance Company), a collaborative outlet for Minnesota high school students, in 1998 while she was the teacher for and director of Rosemount High School’s curricular dance program. Angie holds an M.F.A. in dance choreography from the University of Colorado at Boulder, with an emphasis in the Alexander Technique, and a B.S. in secondary dance education from Illinois State University. Aside from her performances with Evolving Doors Dance, Simmons has also performed professionally as a company member with Isis Movement Company and Tribe of Human in New York and 3rd Law Dance/Theatre and Louder Than Words Dancetheatre in Colorado. Angie has also worked on individual projects with Gabe Masson, Tom Evert, Marcela Alvarez, Jon DeMone, Doug Woods, Kim Neal Knofsinger, David Dorfman, Toby Hankin, Nada Diachenko, Megan Flood, Maruisz Olszewski, Anna Baer, and Lynda White. She currently dances with Cindy Brandle Dance and she continues to work with Evolving Doors Dance. Angie is also a certified massage therapist, specializing in treating dancers and performers of all kinds. She received her certification with honors from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy’s 1000 hour program in 2005. Angie holds a treatment clinic for the LDT students and parents monthly at the studio and also maintains a private practice. (AS)
